Turkish Miners Association (TMD) is getting prepared to make a significant contribution from its part to efforts aiming to improve Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the mining industry. TMD will be organizing the third edition of the International Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Health and Safety in Mines on December the 1st to 4th, 2018. The conference will address the problems and possible solutions in OHS and try to create a ‘Road Map for Safe Mining”. 

The first edition of our Conference, supported by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and International Labor Organization (ILO), was held in 2014 with over 400 participants, while calling a great attention with the Exhibition. Having hosted over 20 foreign experts, the two-day Conference also featured over 20 local experts who enlightened the participants with their last knowledge and experience. 

The second edition was organized in 2016 with the attendance of more than 300 local and foreign experts who made stimulating presentations regarding the mining industry. The Conference created a forum for discussion where experts from Turkey as well as the U.S., Australia, China, South Africa etc. discussed the occupational health problems and possible solutions in the mining industry. The conference also addressed country-specific examples, sectoral policies, technical developments as well as the human factor and training in the development of OHS culture. 

Moreover, David Reece, a globally-renowned risk-management expert in the mining, delivered a course on ‘Operational Risk Management in the Global Mining Industry’. 

Throughout the conference, practical and theoretical issues, country-specific examples, sectoral policies, technical developments as well as the human factor and training in the development of OHS culture were discussed. 

All the presentations were given to the participants in a CD format after the conference, alongside a Bulletin of Sectoral Updates. 

The third edition of the International Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Health and Safety in Mines will be held on December the 1st to 4th, 2018 at İstanbul Hilton Convention Center. Turkish Miners Association is pleased and honored to invite those interested to the Conference from inside and outside the country and host them in İstanbul.
