Due diligence & certification
Due diligence is increasingly regarded as a practical means to foster good practices in mining.
This section provides links to important guidelines and directives on the topic of due diligence and certification:
- The “OECD Due Diligence Guidance” provides detailed recommendations to help companies respect human rights and avoid contributing to conflict through their mineral purchasing decisions and practices. This Guidance is useful for any company potentially sourcing minerals or metals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas
- EU – Conflict Minerals Regulation: The EU regulation will take effect on 1 January 2021. It aims to help stem the trade in four minerals – tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold - which sometimes finance armed conflict or are mined using forced labour. It will directly apply to companies that import these minerals and metals into the EU, no matter where these originate from.
